A funeral is something most people organise infrequently, so it will come as no surprise that most families, grief to one side, often have little idea as to what is involved, certainly when it comes to those essential services that support the ceremony itself.
How do you inform friends and extended family about someone’s passing? What if you want something special at the service itself, a choir or even a soloist? What about catering arrangements afterwards? Should you have a memorial book for people to sign? Or even a gravestone to commemorate the life of your loved one?
These so-called ‘additional services’ – and there are many others – are the very ‘dressings’ that emanate from the funeral ceremony itself, however, they are very important and play a key part in the entire bereavement process.
In this section we have tried to bring many of them to your attention so that you can give them real consideration. Let’s call them ‘aide-memoires’. Please review the entire ‘Additional Services’ section, along with the drop down menus, so that you come to a fuller understanding as to what a funeral – in all its guises – actually embraces.
